visual communication for complex decisions

Working with me

Hi, I’m Drew — founder of Verkstad.

I specialize in visual communication for complex decisions, helping organizations explain technical, market-driven, or innovative ideas with clarity and purpose.

Before working full-time as a designer, I trained and worked as an urban planner. That background taught me how to communicate ideas where clarity truly matters, from explaining the neighborhood impacts of a new transit line to visualizing financial strategies and market dynamics for investors.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve used design and visual thinking to translate complexity into understanding. My work focuses on helping people see the big picture, grasp key insights, and move from information to action. Good design doesn’t just make things look better, it shapes decisions, builds trust, and earns support.

That thinking also drives my studio, Big Idea Design, where I build AI-governed design systems that let teams generate on-brand materials at scale with consistency.

I am based between Portland, Oregon and Barcelona, Spain; working globally.

Engage Your Audience

People judge fast. Clear, thoughtful visuals help you capture attention and build trust quickly.

Improve understanding — hand-drawn head in profile with a heart-shaped location pin inside, representing visuals that help a message land and stick.

improve understanding

Research shows that humans process visual information 60,000 times faster than text. Balanced compositions help your stick the message.

gain support

When your idea is easy to grasp, it's easier to say yes! Great designs lead to funding, sales, and stakeholder buy-in.

Why Me?

Design that informs and compels action. I believe design should be more than window dressing. Every product should serve a purpose: clarify an idea, communicate value, and connect with your audience. Well-crafted design:

  • Increases engagement with your audience

  • Improves understanding of your message

  • Drives support for your idea, product, or proposal
